Every adventure holds the possibility of discovery! Treasure Camp invites young explorers to uncover the natural wonders and hidden treasures of Western Maine through a week of hands-on exploration, outdoor adventure, and summer camp fun.
From digging for gemstones and minerals to exploring Maine’s fascinating geological history, campers discover that some of the most exciting treasures are waiting to be found in the world around them.
Along the way, they’ll learn about the rocks, minerals, landscapes, and history that make Maine such a fascinating place to explore. And with plenty of time for traditional camp activities, Treasure Camp offers a wonderful combination of curiosity, adventure, and friendship.
Searching for Maine’s Hidden Treasures
Treasure Camp is all about the excitement of discovery. Campers investigate the natural world, explore Maine’s fascinating geological history, and experience the thrill of searching for treasures of their own.
One of the highlights of Treasure Camp is a visit to the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum in Bethel, home to an extraordinary collection of Maine minerals and gemstones, along with one of the world’s most remarkable collections of lunar meteorites. Campers have the opportunity to see incredible specimens from right here in Maine—and even rocks from the Moon and Mars! It’s an exciting way to discover that the wonders of geology extend far beyond our own backyard.
Throughout the week, activities may include:
- Visiting the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum in Bethel
- Digging through authentic mine tailings in Bryant Pond’s mineral pit in search of gemstones and unique mineral specimens
- Examining and learning about the rock and mineral specimens housed in our Lakeside Lodge
- Exploring historic cellar holes and discovering clues about Maine’s past
- Investigating forests, ponds, and the natural world
- Gardening and discovering what grows beneath the soil.
- Group challenges, outdoor games, and team adventures
- Canoeing, swimming, hiking, and traditional summer camp activities
Whether they’re examining a newly discovered mineral, searching for hidden treasures, or uncovering clues about Maine’s past, campers learn through curiosity, observation, and hands-on exploration.
More Than Rocks and Gemstones
While discovering natural treasures is at the heart of the program, Treasure Camp is also about building confidence, developing friendships, and enjoying the excitement of summer camp.
Campers work together to solve problems, share discoveries, and take on new challenges. Through exploration and play, they develop observation skills, an appreciation for the natural world, and the confidence to try new things.
There is also plenty of time to enjoy Bryant Pond’s waterfront, explore the surrounding woods, and take part in the camp traditions that make summer special.
A Naturalist Adventure for Curious Campers
Treasure Camp is part of Bryant Pond’s Naturalist Path, offering a unique introduction to the geology, natural history, and landscapes of Maine.
For campers who love collecting rocks, searching for hidden objects, solving mysteries, or simply exploring the outdoors, this program offers a week filled with opportunities to discover something new.
Like all of our learning paths, Treasure Camp can be a starting point for further exploration or a memorable adventure all on its own. No previous experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to explore!
