Upcoming Programs:

Introduction to Beekeeping- Calais

Tuesdays, January 23 – February 20, 2018
6:30-8:30 p.m.
115 Multi Media Room, Washington County Community College, 1 College Drive, Calais

This 5-week beginner beekeeping course will introduce you to the honey bee colony, hive management and honey production, and is taught by a Master Beekeeper with experience teaching beginner and advanced courses in downeast Maine. Registration fee includes The Bee-Sentials Field Guide by Lawrence J. Conner with Robert Muir.

 

Introduction to Beekeeping- Machias

Wednesdays, January 24 – February 21, 2018
7:00-9:00 p.m.
102 Science Building, University of Maine at Machias

2018 Washington/Hancock County Master Gardener Training (Ellsworth)

January 19 – May 18, 2018
Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to Noon
Hancock County Extension Office, Ellsworth

Application Deadline is December 27th at 4:30 p.m.

Because of the high demand and long waiting list for this program, we are only able to accept a percentage of the applicants.  Acceptance is based on complete and in depth answers to questions on the application form, so be sure to respond thoughtfully and leave no blanks.

The purpose of the Master Gardener program is to provide training to prepare you to do gardening-related volunteer work in the local community.

 

Intermediate Beekeeping Class

March 7 – April 11, 2018
Wednesdays, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Washington County Extension Office, Machias

The six week Intermediate Beekeeping course is intended for the beekeeper with at least a season or two of keeping bees. This course covers fewer topics more deeply than the Beginner’s class and concentrates on keeping bees successfully in this area.  There will be a private Facebook group for the class to expand on discussions started in class, and for the instructor to post additional articles and video links, etc.

 

Dining with Diabetes Down East

A Program for People with Diabetes and Their Families

This free program complements medical care by teaching people with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, and their family members and caregivers what they can do to help control blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol. UMaine Extension registered dietitian and nutritionist Alan Majka will provide presentations, lead discussions and demonstrate preparation of nutritious recipes that participants can sample. There will be an opportunity to taste a variety of main dishes, side dishes, and desserts.
