Mainely Dish: Kale Chips

To be honest, kale is not a food I typically purchase during my weekly food shopping trip. I don’t often purchase kale because I am intimidated by the volume I have to purchase at the grocery store, and then I wonder how I would use it. My advice is to have a recipe or two in mind before purchasing any fresh produce. Planning out your meals and making a list before you go grocery shopping will help reduce food waste and help you save money. I know I have let fresh produce sit in my fridge too long before using it and then I have to throw it away because it spoiled. When I plan my meals before going grocery shopping it has helped me cut down on food waste and save money.

If you plan on purchasing kale, have a few recipe ideas in mind. This Kale Chip recipe is a quick and easy nutrient-packed snack, only needing three ingredients! It can also be spruced up by trying different seasonings like paprika, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes, curry, or everything bagel seasoning. Kale is a great addition to your eating pattern because it provides great sources of fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin K.

Quick Tips:

  • This recipe is best made and eaten right away so they are warm and crispy.
  • Storing leftover kale chips can be tricky, so let the chips cool off completely before storing them in an airtight container, and keep them at room temperature. Do not refrigerate them because they will not keep their crunch.
  • You can freeze fresh kale if you don’t use it all. For more information on how to do this read the Canning & Freezing Quick-Guide.
